I felt this a lot while repairing an old iPod recently. It's been nice to have music be separate from the rest of my electronic life! It feels like an e-reader for my ears in that the device only does one thing but I really really want that device to JUST do that one thing. And I didn't realize until I needed to fill the iPod with songs that the last time I really cared about whole albums rather than individual songs was back when I last used this specific iPod. Streaming vs downloaded files really changes the perspective. My Spotify likes are more of a chronicle of stuff I haven't wanted to forget over the past couple of years while all of the stuff on my iPod is my absolute favorite stuff. It's nice to have a space for music that is wholly curated by me from what I've listened to and decided I liked enough to make the effort of downloading from Bandcamp or something. Makes me wonder what else of my own taste I would discover if I had the opportunity to be similarly deliberate and discerning in other facets of life.
